Jason Carter // producer, engineer

Picture
Jason Carter spent his childhood years honing his skill as a drummer touring with rockbands and jazz groups alike. He acquired a well deserved reputation in the jazz world playing with such notables as Tom Grant, Doc Severinsen, Eric Marienthal, Patrick Lamb, Victor Wooten and many others. After a long run of touring and playing jazz, Jason joined up with the Norwegian rooted rock band Software and signed a production contract with actor Kiefer Sutherland and his company Ironworks Music. Softcore played shows throughout the U.S. and Europe garnering critical acclaim from journalists and fans alike. While playing with Softcore, Jason was recording and performing with songwriter legend Larry Norman from 2001 up to Norman's passing in 2008.

In 2007, Jason joined Black Francis (of Pixies fame) as his drummer for several tours throughout the U.S., Europe and Australia performing headlining tours as well as support for The Stone Temple Pilots. During this time, Jason recorded several albums with Black Francis including Bluefinger, SVN FNGRS, The Golem, Live at Nijmegen, and more. In 2008, Black Francis and his wife Violet Clark formed the band Grand Duchy along with Jason and his wife Silver Sorensen. Grand Duchy released 2 albums and toured the US in 2009. Jason also is a member of the improv super group THMPR featuring Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) and the late Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, B52s).

Engineering and producing...
Jason's passion for capturing music is just as important as playing it. He started cutting his teeth by slicing analog tape during his teen years working in various recording studios throughout the Pacific Northwest. In the early 90s, Jason worked at Musicraft, a world-class studio on the west coast. Digital recording technology was in its infant stage and Jason was on the ground level learning and using technology like Protools before it was called Protools. In 1993, Jason started Wavelength with his longtime friend and musician/producerJeff Jewkes and has continued to expand the studio to what it is today. Jason has recorded, mixed and mastered hundreds of albums under the Wavelength name for artists and bands from all corners of the globe. His engineering and producing skills have been sought after by many artists, most notably Black Francis, John Fahey, Larry Norman, Art Brut, Pete Yorn, Vandor, Julie Hoy, Grand Duchy, Josh Schroeder, Chris Arellano, John Doan, Kiefer Sutherland, Enkay47, Red Ray Frazier, Exroyale, Labansky, Mark Lemhouse, Miranda Vettrus, Dangermouse/Sparklehorse, and more.

In addition to music, Jason enjoys cooking, traveling, flying airplanes, red licorice and good dark well roasted coffee.
